| UNF Colombo district contestant Shiral Lakthilaka was questioned yesterday by the Criminal Investigations Department about his involvement with retired General Sarath Fonseka and his party office at Rajakeeya Mawatha where he was arrested. “I was asked to report to the CID at 9.30 a.m. and they questioned me at length about my relationships with the General and his private secretary Senaka de Silva,” said Lakthilaka speaking to the Daily Mirror. The questioning continued for about two and a half hours and also covered the nature of Shiral Lakthilaka’s involvement in General Fonseka’s presidential campaign. The UNF contestant had refused to answer some questions on the grounds that it is his right to support a political election candidate of his choice. “There were questions about finances and most centered around finding out if General Fonseka had dealt with me while he was serving in the military,” said Lakthilaka. He also said that he saw a list of about 10-15 names where some had already given statements to the CID while others were yet to be questioned. |
